ASMP New York
2002-2004
The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) was a essential professional development resource when I opened a photography business in the 1990's. I volunteered to be a coordinator for student engagement and membership. My association with the Austin chapter led me to my first client centered graphic design project, a postcard for a photographer show and tell event.
Following my move to New York City, I reached out to the organizers of the New York chapter only to be ignored. It was through networking events with fellow members that I learned that the leadership for the largest chapter in the country was in disarray. In addition, the ASMP national governing body was in motion to relive the New York City board members of their duties. It was during this period that an invitation to join the steering committee in navigating the transition was extended to me.
The photography market was experiencing a recession following the events of 9-11. I began teaching myself Adobe InDesign and Illustrator as means of expanding my business services toward graphic design projects. I assumed the art director role as a means for honing my craft in creating marketing materials along with developing a transitional brand identity.
This is a collection featuring some of the postcards, mailers, posters, and advertisements for ASMP New York events and programming. My efforts with ASMP New York led me to work as a graphic designer and art director for these brands:
