The Austin Chronicle
1993 - 1998
Besides my part time job at a framing store, Deck the Walls, I had some free time on my hands after college. I made an appointment with the art director at The Austin Chronicle, Ben Davis, in search of freelance photography work. It was one of my first portfolio presentations as a startup business. My first commission was documenting the new recycling facility on the outskirts of the city limits.
I became a regular contributor for the weekly publication for six years. My time with The Austin Chronicle was instrumental in my personal and artistic development. The weekly publication offered an exploration of culture and society beyond my upbringing in the homogeneous state of Arkansas. The exposure and access with folks in the arts and culture industry pushed my creative boundaries.
